High Rating for EIT Student Accommodation

June 29, 2010

An independent evaluation has confirmed EIT Hawke’s Bay’s reputation for providing one of the best student accommodations in New Zealand.

Opposite EIT’s Taradale campus, the Student Village has kept its four-star plus Qualmark grading after undergoing a rigorous assessment for New Zealand Tourism’s official quality mark last week.

Village managers Ann Pratt and Dave Fussell are delighted with the high grading, which ranks the 12-villa complex above ‘excellent’ and close to ‘exceptional’. It helps, the pair say, that the village is set in a park-like environment and is so handy to EIT.

The architect-designed residential villas opened in 1999 on land behind the Taradale Holiday Park, which has since closed. Ann and Dave have managed the complex for the past eight years and live on site, providing round-the-clock security and accessibility for students and parents.

Every year, they host barbecues to make students – many of them internationals – feel at home. The village also liaises with the Pettigrew.Green Arena and EIT students’ association to offer recreational opportunities, including the use of the gym and squash courts and library computers at weekends.
