This is a hands-on programme that marries the growth of the grape with its production into premium wine. Many international students travel to New Zealand to complete this unique programme. What will I learn?

We follow the annual vine growth cycle from bud burst and fruit development through to harvesting and winemaking. You will be responsible for the entire viticultural and oenological management of vines through to label design and final bottling. You will learn in an operational environment, completing a vintage with full tutorial support.

Entry

  • Applicants will require a minimum of NCEA Level 2 with credits from any sub field or domain, preferably including credits in Science and Mathematics.
  • For applicants without these NCEA credits or equivalent: a pass in Sixth Form Certificate preferably including science and mathematics meets the academic entry requirements, as do NQF qualifications of an equivalent or higher level which demonstrate achievement in this area.
  • Students over 20 are classified as mature students. Mature students with life skills and/or work experience who do not meet the stated entry requirements but have the equivalent ability and experience are encouraged to apply. All applicants will be required to attend an interview with the Programme Coordinator.
  • If English is not your first language, evidence of language competency may be required prior to acceptance. Level 5-6 programme IELTS score of 6 or TOEFL score of 550 OR equivalent.
