The Association promotes the social and recreation interests and welfare of student members.
Governance of the Association is made up of six students elected in September and appointed at the AGM in October, plus four external appointments from experienced professional backgrounds who aid decision making by providing that all important objectivity. The new Board begins its tenure on January 1 of each year. The Executive are appointed internally by skill set and qualifications. In addition to this, each class can elect to appoint a class representative to represent the class view at meetings set out in the diary and wall planner or by the Executive.
The Association employs staff to look after the day to day running of the Association and assist in providing the following services: Second hand sales (EIT online/students association) books and other, documentation services, faculty sponsorship, phone top ups and cards, accommodation listings, student magazine, social and competitive activities on and off campus, and a sympathetic ear.
US@TP has become a Union of Students Tairawhiti Trust. A Trust that Tairawhiti students can apply to for scholarships.
