Scholarships and Grants

Scholarships and Grants are another way to help you cover fees, programme related costs and living expenses.

There are a range of scholarships and grants available to students studying at Tairāwhiti Polytechnic.  This Scholarship Check List can also assist you with completing your application.

  • Tairāwhiti trust scholarship

    The Tairāwhiti Trust was established in 1985 for the purpose of furthering continuing educational opportunities at Tairāwhiti Polytechnic.

    The Tairāwhiti Trust Members will select the scholarship recipients taking into account:

    • application quality and completeness;
    • references;
    • enquiries made about the applicant with referees;
    • financial circumstances;
    • achievements;
    • future potential;

    Applications must be made on the application form and must include all supporting information.

    Applications for semester 1 closed on 26 March 2010, applications for semester 2 close 30 July.

  • Future Māori & Pacific Leadership Award

    This award is open to people who choose EIT Tairāwhiti as a vehicle to support their vision for working with whanau, hapu, iwi and/or Pacific communities.

    Preference will be given to those who have strong endorsement from the community and who are already actively working in and for whanau, hapu, iwi and/or Pacific communities’ initiatives.

    To be eligible you must meet the following criteria:

    • applicants must be of Māori or Pacific Island decent;
    • applicants must be able to express in writing a vision for working in whanau, hapu, iwi and/or Pacific communities AND link their choice of study to that vision;
    • applications should be supported by at least one letter of endorsement from members of the community who can endorse the applicant’s involvement in whanau, hapu, iwi and/or Pacific community initiatives;

    Each grant is a $1000 contribution toward study costs. The scholarship will be paid as a cash grant if no money is owing to the EIT Tairāwhiti.

    Applications must be made on the application form and must include all supporting information.

    Applications for semester 1 closed 8 March 2010, applications for semester 2 close 30 July 2010 recipients will be selected & advised within 8 weeks of the closing date.

  • Moving up grant

    This grant is open to people who are returning to further study at EIT Tairāwhiti at a level higher than the year of previous study.

    To be eligible you must meet the following criteria:

    • Applicants must be a returning student who has successfully completed a programme of study in 2009 or semester 1, 2010 (fee paying courses only);
    • Applicants must be enrolled in a Tairāwhiti Polytechnic programme of full time study for semester 2, 2010 at a level higher than their completed programme of study in 2009 or semester 1, 2010 (fee paying courses only);
    • Preference will be given to those students who are able to articulate their career development plans at application;

    Each grant is a $1000 contribution toward study costs. The scholarship will be paid as a cash grant if no money is owing to the EIT Tairāwhiti.

    Applications must be made on the application form and must include all supporting information.

    Applications for semester 1 closed 8 March 2010, applications for semester 2 close 30 July 2010 recipients will be selected & advised within 8 weeks of the closing date.

  • Trades grant

    This grant is open to people who choose EIT Tairāwhiti to commence a career in carpentry, engineering, automotive or driving.

    Preference will be given to those of good character who demonstrate support from employers, school or community. Each grant is a $1000 contribution toward study costs.

    To be eligible you must meet the following criteria:

    • applicants must be enrolled in one of the following full time programmes for 2010 -
      • Certificate in Cafe Service Level 2
      • Certificate in Viticulture & Winemaking Level 4
    • applicants must be able to express in writing career development plans;
    • applications should be supported by at least one letter of endorsement from previous employer, school and/or members of the community who can confirm the suitability of the applicant for a career in trades;

    Applications must be made on the application form and must include all supporting information.

    Applications for semester 1 closed 8 March 2010, applications for semester 2 close 30 July 2010 recipients will be selected & advised within 8 weeks of the closing date.

  • Youth grant

    This grant is open to people under 25 enrolling in full time study who have a clear vision for the future.

    To be eligible you must meet the following criteria:

    • applicants must be under 25 years of age as at February 16th 2010;
    • applicants must be able to express in writing a vision for the future that is related to chosen field of study;
    • applicants must be enrolled in a full time EIT Tairawhiti Programme of study for 2010 (fee paying courses only);

    Each grant is a $500 contribution toward study costs. The scholarship will be paid as a cash grant if no money is owing to the EIT Tairawhiti.

    Applications must be made on the application form and must include all supporting information.

    Applications for semester 1 closed 8 March 2010, applications for semester 2 close 30 July 2010.
    Recipients will be selected & advised within 8 weeks of the closing date.
