Graduates of the Postgraduate Certificate in Health Science will be able to develop innovative, effective, efficient and high quality approaches to health care delivery within their defined scope of practice. Graduates of the Postgraduate Certificate in Health Science will be able to credit these courses to the Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science. Registered Nurse graduates of the Postgraduate Certificate may also progress to either the Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science or the Master of Nursing programme. The Postgraduate Certificate in Health Science is approved by the Nursing Council of New Zealand as an advanced nursing practice programme. Programme comprises of 2 courses offered: PG8.411 Advanced Practice to Support Elder Health (N) Recognising the diversity within older adults and the complex relationship between determinants of health, health status and well-being, this course extends the knowledge of health professionals to provide evidence based services for this age group. Drawing on practice experience, research, fieldwork, industry needs and related literature, course participants will reflect on the current situation and future needs of the advanced practitioner working in elder care settings. Course assessments: PG8.410 Advancing Speciality Practice (M/N) This course provides the opportunity for the participants to critically appraise and reflect upon individul and organisational health care provision and develop strategies for enhancing practice within a specialised area. Coursework is comprised of theory, independent study, and clinical fieldwork (practicum), and is supported by seminars exploring relevant issues, and mentorship within the identified scope of practice.
