This competency based integrated theory practice programme has been designed to meet two distinct areas of demand: New Zealand Registered Nurses wishing to return to clinical practice. Overseas Registered Nurses who are required to successfully complete a competency based programme in order to attain Nursing Council of New Zealand Registration. 
The Registered Nurse will be updated across the scope of nursing practice and have the opportunity to revise his/her nursing knowledge in order to achieve prescribed Nursing Council of New Zealand Competencies. This is a competency based assessment programme for overseas and New Zealand Registered Nurses. Applicants from a country where English is not the first or native language must provide certification from an accepted language testing authority indicating that they have achieved the required standard of performance in the English language within the last two years. Accepted tests and related standards include:(a) Certificate of a pass in courses recognised by the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Academic with an overall score of at least 7 that includes a score of at least 6.5 in Reading and Listening and a score of 7 in each skill or (b) Occupational English Test (OET) B pass in all areas.

- Evidence of Registration as a Nurse/Midwife with Nursing Council of New Zealand/ annual practising certificate.
Overseas Applicants:
- A copy of the applicants Nursing Council of New Zealand Nursing/Midwifery Registration/Enrolment Verification Form;
- Evidence of a satisfactory result in an approved English language assessment as specified by New Zealand Nursing Council;
- A current Curriculum Vitae including details of education, qualifications, registration and career summary.

For the purposes of nursing registration / enrolment in New Zealand, evidence of an acceptable standard of competence in the English language requires certification from a bona fide education institution or language testing authority indicating that the applicant has achieved an acceptable standard of performance in the English language within the last two years. Acceptable English levels are:
Certificate of a pass in courses recognised by the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Academic -level 7.0 (overall band) for all applicants who are required to undertake a competency assessment either through an integrated theory and practice programme or through DHB -level 7 (overall band) for those applicants who are NOT required to undertake a competency assessment. (Nursing Council - Feb 2001). Occupational English Test (OET) B pass in all areas.
