Winning the Mazda Emerging Artist of the Year in my final year (2004) proved to me that you don’t need to study in a bigger centre to have the same opportunities.

After three years of successful study graduates will be awarded the EIT Bachelor of Visual Arts and Design. Career opportunities in the Visual Arts and Design industry include: interior design, furniture design, freelance graphics, designing web pages for the Internet, interactive CD-ROM, computer graphics, illustration, video, 3-D rendering, as well as the traditional visual creative arts such as painting, sculpture, printmaking and crafts; for example small object design. The Bachelor of Visual Arts and Design will enable graduates to apply for further study (e.g. a Postgraduate Diploma or Master of Arts in Art and Design or Master of Fine Arts). 
The Bachelor programme stresses an inter-media and multidisciplinary approach to learning. This allows a unique opportunity for you to explore your creative talents in a broad range of traditional and contemporary media and technologies whilst focusing on your specialist direction. We believe that a flexible broad knowledge base coupled with specialist skills are essential in today's market place. The programmes are well researched and offered in some of the best facilities in New Zealand. These facilities are supplemented by other workshops in the Arts section, particularly Video Production and Fashion. The range of media may include, but is not limited to: Metals, wood, plastic and ceramics Print - Woodblock, Silkscreen, Photosilkscreen and Etching workshops Small object workshops (including Stone and Bone) Intron Press Printing and Photocopy (including colour) Drawing, Design and Painting studios Fibre and Papermaking facilities Computer Suite, including digital photography, video, 3D rendering, Internet facilities and DTP(Desk Top Publishing).
