The Bachelor of Business Studies is a three year full-time programme or equivalent part-time. Classes are scheduled for this programme between the hours of 8.00 am and 9.00 pm, Monday through Friday.
In practice, full-time students are expected to complete an average of 120 credits per year. One credit is broadly equivalent to 10 student-learning hours. Learning hours include both classroom and out-of-class work. Typically, a full-time student will take 8 courses in each year of study.
Business courses equivalent to NZQA Levels 5 to 7 are integrated with a practical, industry-based focus. Students can choose to major in Accounting, Marketing, Management and Information Systems.
Double major options are available, and also two concurrent degree opportunities with EIT's Bachelor of Computing Systems and Bachelor of Recreation and Sport are available. A cross-credit initiative is also in place with Victoria University of Wellington for Year 1 and Year 2 BBS studies.
By integrating business courses with a practical, industry-based focus, you'll be prepared for success from day one.
Years one, two and three courses are available to both full-time and part-time students.

The Bachelor of Business Studies programme enables graduates to think conceptually and adapt to change.

Accounting Major
Graduating with an accounting major will enable you to undertake accountancy related work in the commercial and not-for-profit sectors. If you intend to become a Chartered Accountant, four years of tertiary study is required for membership to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand.
Management Major
Typical opportunities after graduation include work as a team leader, functional manager or senior supervisor in a wide range of organisations and industries.
Marketing Major
The Marketing Major is designed for students who intend to pursue a career in marketing. Typical opportunities after graduation include work as marketing manager, national sales manager, key account manager or product manager.
Information Systems Major
On completion of the Information Systems Major, typical work opportunities could include IT Consultant, IT Business Systems Analyst or IT Accounting Manager.
At EIT we also offer two concurrent degree options with our Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS). The concurrent Bachelor of Business Studies and Bachelor of Computing Systems (BCS) provide students with a thorough theoretical and practical knowledge of areas vital to the business and computing industry. The concurrent Bachelor of Business Studies and Bachelor of Recreation and Sport (BRS) provide students with sound knowledge in the recreation and sport areas. These initiatives enable you to complete a double degree in 4 to 5 years.

3 years full-time or equivalent part-time study. To meet the academic requirements of the NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants, four years of tertiary study are required.

A scholarship will be available to every Hawke's Bay Year 13 Secondary School graduate wanting to commence study for a degree at EIT.
100% FREE tuition for Year One.
50% FREE tuition for Year Two (subject to applicants meeting agreed standards).
Fees that are the responsibility of the student are: Students Association, Course Related Costs, and any extra courses over the equivalent of full-time study.
Applicants must:
Undertake full-time degree study at EIT.
Be a 2006 Year 13 graduate from a secondary school in the Hawke's Bay region from Dannevirke to Wairoa, Taupo and Gisborne*. (* 5 degree programmes only available to students from Gisborne.)
Meet the EIT Year 13 degree entry criteria to be eligible.

 | For admission, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: A personal interview may be part of the application process. Standard Entry A minimum of 42 credits at level 3 or higher on the National Qualifications Framework, including a minimum of 14 credits at level 3 or higher in each of two subjects from an approved subject list, with a further 14 credits at level 3 or higher taken from no more than two additional domains on the National Qualifications Framework or approved subjects plus a minimum of 14 credits at level 1 or higher in Mathematics or Pangarau on the National Qualifications Framework and a minimum of 8 credits at level 2 or higher in English or Te Reo Maori; 4 credits must be in Reading and 4 credits must be in Writing. The literacy credits will be selected from a schedule of approved achievement standards and unit standards. A minimum of 3 C Grades in Bursary subjects or A combination of Bursary and Level 3 NCEA credits or At least 75 Level 2 NCEA credits in one year in best 4 subjects or Maximum of 12 in 4 subjects in 6 Form Certificate or Have passed three New Zealand Diploma in Business courses with a minimum B grade in each. These courses will be able to be cross-credited towards your Bachelor of Business Studies Degree.
