Chris Collins is Chief Executive at the Eastern Institute of Technology, a large public sector tertiary education institution based in Hawke’s Bay and Tairāwhiti. He previously spent 17 years employed in the University sector, at Victoria and Massey University, before taking up executive roles in the Institute of Technology sector in 2002. At Massey University he served as the University’s Director of Sport and Recreation, responsible for facility development, staffing, facilities and programmes, and concurrently was a Senior Fellow in the Department of Management in the College of Business, heading the University’s sport management programme. He then moved onto senior management roles heading university student services and as Regional Registrar, before taking up a position as Dean and General Manager of the Faculty of Health, Science and Technology, at UCOL.
Since taking up his role as Chief Executive at EIT in 2004, he has subsequently chaired the ITP sector CEO Group, and currently chairs the NZITP CEO Group, and is on the Board of TANZ, with EIT being a TANZ member institution. He is also on the Board of Business Hawke’s Bay and the Regional Indoor Sports & Events Centre Trust.
Chris retains some continuing academic activity as editor, co-editor and contributing author to two academic textbooks on ‘Sport Management in NZ’ (2006) and ‘Sport in NZ Society’ (2007), with a 3rd edition due for completion and publication in January 2012.
