    Achievement of this qualification gives entry into the Diploma in Grapegrowing and Winemaking, Bachelor of
    Viticulture and Bachelor of Wine Science.

  • Outline

    The Certificate in Grapegrowing and Winemaking is designed to:

    • Provide graduates with a wide range of skills in grapegrowing and winemaking.
    • Act as a bridging programme for those who are interested in higher level qualifications in viticulture or wine science.

    The total number of programme credits:

    Tairawhiti, Gisborne campus - 144 credits
    Hawkes Bay campus - 120 credits

    This programme is offered at both the Tairawhiti campus in Gisborne and the Hawkes Bay campus at Taradale.  The programme at each campus is fundamentally the same, with the majority of the courses that make up the programme being the same.

  • Dates

    There are two entry points per year:

    • February (full time or part time)
    • July (part time only in Hawkes Bay) (full time Gisborne)
  • Duration

    1 year full time

  • Entry

    Applicants must be over 18 years of age on 1 February of the year they apply for entry into this programme. Applicants under 18 years may be provisionally accepted into the programme but restricted in which courses they are enrolled in until they turn 18 years of age.

    A telephone interview will be part of the application process. 

    The programme is open entry, that is, there are no formal academic requirements, but a high level of motivation and interest is recommended.

    English Language Entry Requirement

    Students are required to have attained an acceptable level of English language fluency.  This may be demonstrated in a variety of ways, including successful study in English, approved scores on IELTS (5.0 Academic) tests, completion of accepted international equivalents or completion of an EIT Hawke’s Bay assessment.
