Students signing up for a new EIT Hawke’s Bay computing course are to receive all their materials “in the bag”.
EIT’s Faculty of Business and Computing will deliver a “bagful of goodies” to students enrolling in the 19-week National Certificate in Computing Level 2 course.
The satchel of materials will include workbooks, a CD and everything else needed to complete the qualification.
Potential students interested in the money as well as what’s in the bag may also want to know about the low cost of the course -- $149.
Programme co-ordinator Rose Reeve says flexibility is a key feature of the course, which has been designed to suit a wide range of people. Among others, it is likely to interest housebound parents and people in the workplace interested in improving their computer skills.
With no formal classes, there is no required attendance for students who can be based at home, in their workplace, at EIT centres in Hastings, Waipukurau, Flaxmere and Wairoa or on the Taradale campus.
Students can work in their own time, enrolling and starting the programme anytime after July 31.
For anyone needing help or without a computer, tutorial assistance will be available at set times from any EIT centre. Assistance can also be offered by phone or mail.
The course is recognised as a base level of computing skills for any industry and provides a first qualification in computing. It also offers entry level for further education in computing.
Skills covered include email, Internet, file management, computer parts, word processing and document production for industry, spreadsheets, database, desktop publishing and web design.
Students experiencing difficulties managing their time will be able to seek an extension if they find themselves unable to finish. The NZQA-approved course will involve assessment, says Rose Reeve, a lecturer for the Faculty of Business and Computing.
