The English Language Centre has spacious, well-equipped classrooms, a Language Laboratory and a student common room with internet suite.

Orientation to study at EIT and living in New Zealand takes place at the beginning of every course.  All students receive a certificate of completion at the end of their study.

General English Programme

The General English programme is designed for students who wish to improve their communicative English and/or prepare for later certificate, diploma or degree level study. Classroom work is based on a communicative approach using the latest international theories and research.  Classes have a maximum of 15 students.

Students enjoy language experiences such as community visits, guest speakers, language laboratory/computer laboratory classes and one-to-one lessons. 

The programme provides a good basis for improving students' language level prior to taking IELTS, TOEFL,  TOEIC or Speech New Zealand exams.

English for Academic Purposes

This is an afternoon option which helps prepare students for diploma or degree level study.

Students have an opportunity to visit degree classes and undertake degree level assessments as part of their study skills preparation.

$350 per week as part of a full-time programme, with General English or IELTS Preparation in the morning.

 

IELTS preparation Programme

EIT is an accredited British Council IELTS Testing Centre and offers IELTS examinations on campus throughout the year.  Fully trained IELTS examiners on the staff helf students prepare for the test.

Intensive IELTS preparation courses are designed to improve students test taking strategies, to familiarise students with the IELTS test format and to improve their English level prior to taking the test.

This programme best suits students with an upper intermediate or higher level of English.

Other Exam Preparation

Preparation and testing for the Speech NZ Examination in Oral Communication is held three or four times throughout the year.  Assistance can be given in preparation for TOEIC and TOEFL examinations. 

English for Business

An English for Business course, designed to enhance students´ understanding and use of business English and prepare them for future business practice.

Fees

Academic Skills for Business Studies as part of a one year Diploma in Applied Business.

This is a pathway to a Bachelor degree or New Zealand Diploma of Business for students whose level of English does not meet the entry requirements.  IELTS 5 or 5.5 is entry for this course (subject to numbers).
