Student Newsletter

The EIT International Centre produces a student newsletter called 'Rainbow Talk'. The publication is fun, interesting and informative. We promote it as a useful communication tool between the International Centre and the International Students, EIT staff and homestay families. 'Rainbow Talk' is published each term and included are upcoming events, advice on all sorts of topics and issues relevant to our International Students, as well as photos, stories and a noticeboard. We welcome contributions and feedback.

International Student Activites

Trips and activities are organised approximately once a month for International students eg weekend trips to Wellington, Rotorua, Taupo: International Dinners, and Barbeques, Karaoke, and visits around Hawkes Bay. Some activities are free of charge and others are on a user pay basis.

Insurance

It is compulsory for all international students to have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance while studying in New Zealand . We can arrange this for you, and ensure you are covered travelling to and from New Zealand .

International Student Counsellors

International students have access to counsellors in their native languages. If you have a problem you wish to talk about in your own language, you can contact your own language counsellor.

Arrival

Most students arrive at Auckland International Airport and transfer to a domestic flight to Napier. The domestic flight takes 1 hour. Homestays will meet their student at the Napier airport and the International Accommodation Officer will meet and take students staying at the EIT Student Residential Village to their accommodation.  At Auckland International Airport a meet and greet service can be arranged.

Airport Pickup Service: Free from Napier Airport. Meet & Transfer service fee ($50) at Auckland International Airport if required.

Transport

While some homestays are within walking distance to EIT, others will need to catch the bus to EIT. There are bus stops at the EIT gates, which operate regularly during the week. The International Office will provide bus timetables to students at their Orientation.

If you drive a car, you must have a current and valid New Zealand driver licence, International Permit or overseas licence. You can drive on an overseas licence for 12 months. After that you need to apply for a NZ licence.
