During the months of April and May, EIT Hawke’s Bay held a number of stakeholder forums to canvas stakeholder feedback and comment as to the Tertiary Educational Needs, Gaps and Priorities for Hawke’s Bay.

Two main forms of direct consultation were used. The first was a series of meetings, in a range of locations and directed at different groups. These included:

  • Tertiary Providers workshop
  • Hui for local Iwi
  • Joint EIT and Tairawhiti Polytechnic held in Wairoa
  • Local Business Leaders workshop
  • Central Hawke’s Bay workshop
  • Taradale Workshop.

The second means of consultation was electronic, with ongoing updates of progress being posted on the EIT website, and feedback sought and received.

A consultation Draft Statement of Tertiary Education Needs, Gaps and Priorites was posted on the Regional Facilitation pages of EIT’s website on Tuesday 22 May 2007. Copies were also distributed to all workshop participants plus other stakeholders.

Feedback was received verbally, via email, letter or at the workshop scheduled specifically to receive further stakeholder input. The comments received were unanimous in their broad support for the document, while a number also offered suggestions for improvement. Where possible these suggestions were incorporated into the final version of Hawke’s Bay Region – Statement of Tertiary Education Needs, Gaps and Priorities.

The time constraints did not permit a detailed research analysis to be undertaken and therefore this first statement is at a high level, and contains very few specific statements. It is anticipated that subsequent versions will be built on closer investigation and consultation on specific themes, and will therefore provide more specific guidance and direction.

If you would like to discuss this Regional Statement or wish to provide further feedback or comment please contact, Paul Hursthouse, EIT’s Business Relationship Manager Ph 974 8000 Ext 5210 or email phursthouse@eit.ac.nz
