New Entry-Level Programmes for Computing

December 7, 2016

2016 Computing Andrew King (5)Responding to changes sought by the NZQA of tertiary educators nationwide, EIT’s School of Computing has updated entry-level programmes to be offered from 2017.

While the National Certificate in Computing (Level 2) and the National Certificate in Computing (Level 3) are being phased out, the replacement programmes will continue to provide flexible study.

Both the New Zealand Certificate in Computing (User Fundamentals) [Level 2]) and the New Zealand Certificate in Computing (Intermediate User) [Level 3] will be fee free. No classes are
taught and the part-time study can centre on home, EIT’s Hawke’s Bay and Tairāwhiti campuses or any of the regional learning centres.

The new certificates move away from unit standards and they provide opportunities for those looking to progress to EIT’s higher-level computing and business programmes.

An essential base level of computing skills for any industry, the Level 2 programme consists of four 10 credit courses. Entry points are in February, May, July and October.

Launching in July, the Level 3 programme will cover foundation skills in computing and comprises six ten credit courses – a somewhat greater workload than the programme it replaces, reflecting today’s more sophisticated digital environment.
