Sports Scholar – Ben Stoyanoff

October 17, 2016

It has become very busy as I move into the last part of EIT’s academic year.  I am currently finishing off my last essay assignments which are based on the arts and literacy – both of which are very interesting.  I also have my second practicum of the year.  Starting at the beginning of Term 4 at Bledisloe School, it comprises four weeks in a Year 2 classroom.  After visiting my class and the school, I have been very excited about this practicum.  It promises to be another great experience in my journey to becoming a teacher.

Meanwhile, summer nears and cricket is really starting to ramp up.  Throughout winter I put in a lot of gym work and regular cricket training sessions with the Hawke’s Bay Cricket High Performance Squad to prepare for the season.  I believe this has further improved my skills.  I began my season with a club T20 tournament, which started on 30 September and ended on 2 October.  November is also busy for Hawke’s Bay Senior Men with Chapple Cup matches and the start of the Hawke Cup campaign.

The Sport Hawke’s Bay and EIT Sports Scholarship has been influential in helping me though the year, both with teaching studies and cricketing pursuits.  It has provided valuable financial assistance enabling me to fully commit to teaching and high performance cricket training.  It’s allowed me to develop as a teacher and cricketer as I don’t have the financial pressure that can occur with full-on study and training during the year.
