Worawa Aboriginal College exhibit at Toihoukura

September 3, 2014

We are very lucky to have students from Worawa Aboriginal College coming, along with their principal Lois Peeler to exhibit their art and deliver a public talk at Toihoukura on Monday September 8th @ 6pm.

Lois Peeler is an original member of the Sapphires, a troupe of 4 young, talented Australian Aboriginal girls who travelled to Vietnam in 1968 to entertain the US troops in Vietnam. She is also a vocal Aboriginal Rights Advocate and the Principal of Worawa Aboriginal College for girls in Victoria Australia. She will be talking about her experiences with the Sapphires among other things.

There will be an exhibition of aboriginal student artwork alongside local exhibits of Maori art work which will give people the opportunity for people to view authentic Aboriginal artwork and talk to the artists and to make connections and strengthen the indigenous relationship.

The artworks from the visiting students have recently returned from being exhibited in the Netherlands. The local pieces will be selected works from local NCEA High School students.

This is a unique opportunity to learn about some very interesting and relevant topics.
