EIT graduate Dennis Ng is skilled and ready to ride the IT wave of success.

The Bachelor of Business Studies and Bachelor of Computing Systems graduate has been studying full time with EIT since 2008 after finishing Lytton High School.

He majored in accounting for the BBS and headed down the systems development stream to secure his BCS.

The 24-year-old studied at the Hawke’s Bay campus and returned home to Gisborne last year to take up his final BCS Level 7 paper – an IT project/internship.

His internship and IT project with was both “challenging and rewarding,” he says.

Dennis researched and surveyed students and lecturers to emphasise possibilities to streamline and improve the Student Learning Experience by
examining aspects of EIT’s Academic Results Process.

His research received recognition for potential future academic research and accreditation as a result of his report findings.

Dennis says “creative freedom” drew him onto the IT career pathway.

“IT affects all aspects of life and work and is an exciting industry. No business or industry can function without IT.”

And he is just about to head to Napier to start what could be described as the ‘dream job’ for him.

He will be an application support consultant for NCS Software Ltd, where he gets to use both his IT and accounting information system
knowledge.

NCS Software provides many local governments with their enterprise council management systems and engagement systems.

“It is going to be interesting because I am being taught how to use the system, specifically their finance module, in which I will be providing their clients and users with support, so I am using both my accounting and IT knowledge.”

And he looks forward to the day when the two are used together far more by businesses large and small across New Zealand.
