These ancient words of wisdom guide the game plan to success for EIT Bachelor of Computer Systems student Haydon Haenga. The 32-year-old Nati (Ngāti Porou) from Tikitiki knows “without a doubt” that computer technology is the way of the future and he is keen to be an IT player in the ever growing industry.

Haydon has an armoury of IT knowledge and work based experience to ensure he has what it takes when the golden glove of opportunity comes knocking at his door.

He has taken up the capstone to his Bachelor of Computing  systems. The six month internship is with Te Runanganui o Ngāti Porou which will involve IT consultancy, the development of mobile phone applications, and a suite of websites for the  organisation. Haydon will be able to apply his new computing knowledge in a work-based setting thereby helping him to be work-ready at the completion of his degree.

“Computers can be found everywhere, so being knowledgeable in this field can be a great advantage. It is also a great skill base for all other aspects of life.”

Haydon is looking for a career in software development.

“I hope to start my own business as an independent game developer. My main reasoning for this career choice is that this vocation embodies a lot of the things that I enjoy and am passionate about. I also have considerable talent in these areas.”
