EIT launches new Master of Health Science Degree

December 6, 2013

_MG_5296EIT launches its Master of Health Science as a new postgraduate degree next year.

Delivered online, the degree requires 18 months of fulltime study or three years part time.

Courses will provide blended and online learning opportunities and, in some cases, clinical fieldwork. The programme is open to students nationwide. International students will be based on the EIT Hawke’s Bay campus.

The degree is tailored to meet the needs of managers and health practitioners working for district health boards, primary health organisations, the fitness industry and sports organisations, as well as social workers, community care workers and allied health practitioners.

Courses are designed around knowledge and research relating to health disparities and the needs of populations, ethical, legal and political dimensions of health policy and practice and interdisciplinary practice to improve health care.

“Health disparities are often referred to in everyday life,” says Dr Patrick Lander, Head of EIT’s School for Health and Sport Science, “so we are very proud to be able to offer the opportunity for individuals to further their knowledge in this area at a postgraduate level at EIT.”

Dr Susan Jacobs, Dean of the Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences, says “we are particularly excited about building on our expertise in blended and online delivery and proven quality in master’s degree education.”

EIT’s Postgraduate Certificate/Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science and Master of Nursing programmes have grown steadily over the years and currently more than 150 postgraduate students are enrolled New Zealand-wide.
