A Demonstration in Sustainable Building at Ōtātara

December 11, 2013

This research project entails maintaining and refitting an existing log cabin building at Otatara Hills, part of the EIT Hawke’s Bay campus, to become a ‘demonstration project’ for sustainable building in the Hawke’s Bay area and New Zealand. The project concerns investigating ways in which a sustainable building can be used as a ‘demonstration facility’ to showcase sustainable building design practices and technologies to various visiting parties from schools to community groups in Hawke’s Bay and to be an educational tool and catalyst to inspire behaviour towards sustainability.

The project is generously sponsored by a number of local businesses namely:  Tumu ITM Napier, UNISON, GEMCO Construction, EMS, Nicolglass, and Ideal Electrical, as well as the passionate support from the Trades and Technology Programmes at EIT for the construction of the project.

It is worth mentioning that this project is part of my study  towards PhD degree in Architecture at Victoria University of Wellington.
